Description

UFOs or Unidentified Flying Objects have long been a matter of great curiosity and interest for the human habitation on the Earth, particularly from June 24, 1947 when American pilot Kenneth Arnold reported sighting nine circular objects flying across his airplane's path in the skies over the state of Washington. His description of their movements as being like "saucers skipping over the water" gave birth to the term, 'flying saucer.' However, objects shaped like cigars, squares, balls, triangles, rings and hats have also been reported to have been seen in almost every country, of this huge and diverse Living Planet known as the Earth. Basically, these UFOs are amorphous and shape-changing objects. The book consists of an interesting list of UFO Encounters by various Air Force Personnels and Scientists across the globe, their experiences, detailed and exhaustive reports, etc. It also has an elaborate list of Alien Encounters and Alien Abductions. Were UFOs not a world-wide phenomenon in scope, extent and observation, V&S Publishers would not have considered publishing this book. According to reliable reports this phenomenon has been witnessed in 133 different countries. Indeed, it has touched on the lives of an increasing number of people around the world.
The sightings are so strange and foreign to our daily mode of thinking that it is frequently countered by ridicule and derision by persons and organizations not acquainted with the facts. Yet, the phenomenon persists; it has not faded away as many of us expected it would when, years ago, we regarded it as a passing fad.
UFOs... Unidentified Flying Objects... which is defined as any aerial or surface sighting, or instrumental recording (e.g., photography, radar, etc.) remains unexplained even after examination by qualified persons. Nonetheless, in the popular mind the UFO phenomenon is associated with the concept of extra-terrestrial intelligence and this might yet prove to be correct in some context. Surely it would be a big joke on all of us should it develop that proof for extra-terrestrial intelligence was here right under our noses all the time while we were searching for it elsewhere!
The terms Flying Saucers and UFOs now appear in the dictionaries of many countries... itself a sure sign of the popular awareness. UFO reports in significant numbers have been made by persons in responsible positions: astronauts, commercial pilots, radar experts, and military men... officials of governments, and astronomers, and even scientists!
Perhaps the most difficult-to-believe data comes from the so-called Close Encounters of one Kind or the other. These are the cases in which there appears physical evidence of the presence of the UFO in immediate surroundings. This can take the form of immediate physical effects on either animate or inanimate matter, or on both. Thus, physiological effects on humans and animals and plants have been very reliably reported, as have the interference with electrical and machinery systems in the immediate vicinity. More than one thousand physical trace cases are on record.
In our considered opinion, the UFO phenomenon is real and not the creation of disturbed minds, and that it may have important communications for science and for the social well-being of the peoples of this Earth.
Who can tell what benefits might accrue from the study of UFOs? It might well lead to the solution of many pressing problems facing humankind today.

Introduction
Unidentified flying object (UFO) is a strange light or object that appears in the sky or near the ground. Its existence defies scientific explanation. Some people believe UFO’s may be spaceships from other planets. Others think UFO’s have natural causes, even though scientists cannot explain all UFO reports. Observers have described various kinds of UFO’s. Many of these objects resemble a glowing tube or saucer and fly silently at high speeds, displaying manoeuvres that would be unusual for an aircraft of any kind. UFO’s have been reported to have frightened animals, caused static on radios, and landed and left marks on the ground.
Scientists have tried to provide logical explanations for most UFO reports. For example, in many cases, a reported UFO later was identified as a meteor, a planet, a rocket, a star, an artificial satellite, or a weather balloon. Aircraft or their exhaust trails, seen under unusual lighting conditions, have also been reported as UFO’s. In addition, atmospheric conditions may produce optical illusions that are described as UFO’s.
From 1966 to 1968, a major study of UFO’s took place in the United States. The U.S. Air Force sponsored the study, by scientists at the University of Colorado. The scientists could not explain all the UFO reports.
Researchers generally mark the beginning of the UFO phenomenon as the sighting of dirigible-like “mystery ships” over the United States in 1896-97. The next significant group of reports came during World War II, from both Allied and Axis pilots. The pilots reported seeing strange metal-like objects, which they called “foo fighters,” in controlled flight around their planes. In 1946 people in Europe, particularly Scandinavia, reported large-scale sightings of silent “ghost rockets.” None of these phenomena has been satisfactorily explained.
