More than this, the child will learn writing techniques including: simple, compound and complex sentences - connectives - grammar tips - harder vocabulary and punctuation from our guinea pig guide. The books are suitable for use by teachers in the classroom or parents at home. The themed books can be used in any order, though the subject matter of 'About Me' and 'All About Animals' may appeal to younger children, who start working through the series. The themed books have been written by a teacher or tutor, have been trialled by the children she teaches and comply with the National Curriculum. This is the second book in this excellent series from Guinea Pig Education.

Use our ideas to write your own stories, or try some non-fiction writing, such as, diaries, reports and leaflets. If you read or write well you will achieve high grades at school, so we challenge you to learn to love writing. You just need a notebook and pencil to start working through your guinea pig writing guide. Don’t forget to colour in the pictures.
Dear Teachers and Parents,
If your children think writing is dull, give them a guinea pig writing book from the ‘Get Going With Creative Writing’ series and we think they’ll change their minds. However, these books are also ideal for those children who love to write, providing starting points that will make any budding young writer’s imagination run wild, especially if they are preparing for 11+ exams.
We have put together a series of themed books to inspire your children to write at his or her level. Whether you choose ‘About Me’, ‘We Love Animals’, ‘Likes and Dislikes, ‘Out And About’ or ‘What We Do’, you will, choose an English study book with a light-hearted, modern approach to appeal to the children of today.
The books can be used at home or in school alongside existing schemes. Inside, you will find a treasure trove of ideas for writing, featuring fiction and non-fiction themes. Based on the National Curriculum, they comply with the national strategy for literacy, with tips on planning and writing techniques, sentence construction, grammar tips and more.
Written by a former class teacher, working as a tutor, the books have been trialled by the children the author teaches in Surrey. These children agree the books are fun and help them learn to love writing.
We would like to thank the students of Guinea Pig Tuition – class of 2010/2011 – Sophia, Georgina, Harriet, Hannah, Sacha, Harry, Gareth, Rahan, Neena, Mahir, Neesha, Jai, Alexandra, Anna Maria and Vlad.
hatehorrible,big, Iabsolutely hairyspidersthatcrawland creeprightuponyou.
I’m lying on the floor reading a magazine, but I see something I don’t like. It has a big, black body and eight long legs. It crawls across the carpet and up my trouser leg at lightning speed. I move as if someone put a firework under me. I scream loudly. Dad comes running. When he finds me, I’m throwing everything off and standing there in my pants.
Dad says calmly, “What’s the matter?” “There’s a spider on my clothes. Catch it quickly before it gets away,” I yell. Dad slowly moves off to get an empty jar to catch it in.
I see the spider again. Is it a tarantula? It has wide bulging eyes which stare up at me. It looks at me menacingly as if to say, ‘You’re scared of me aren’t you? You know I can anaesthetise a fly with my poisonous venom and eat it later for dinner.’ “Quick,” I shout to my dad. “Come quickly!” The spider is startled and runs for cover under my chair so I scream loudly.
Then I leap off the chair. I sprint through the door, climb up the stairs and crouch in a safe hiding place on the landing. Dad is looking for the spider in the lounge, but he can’t find it. He moves the chair, but it’s nowhere to be seen. One thing for sure, it will come back to haunt me later. I look down, “AHHHHHH!”
How do you think the story will end? Write the ending.
