INTRODUCTION

Mondays aren’t so bad – it’s your job that sucks...

There are plenty of Monday jokes out there – for a reason: it’s back to work after two days off doing what we want. Most of us will, at some stage, grumble about work and all it entails, from the daily commute to the drudgery or stress that comes with the average day, the poor pay at the end of the month, the whole hamster-on-a-wheel scenario. But work is something we can’t really avoid, unless we were born wealthy enough not to have to worry about money. Just as well, really, because if people didn’t work, our civilization as we know it would grind to a halt. Whether the trains stopped running or the banks closed their doors, our infrastructure would soon collapse and all hell would break loose.

The trick is to find work we enjoy. If we can find something we enjoy doing, the chances are we’ll be good at it and we’ll find it exciting and fulfilling. And so a positive cycle is powered up. To do this, though, we have to be lucky or plan and adapt and keep going until we find what’s good for us and satisfying. For some people that’s a 9 to 5 admin job with no pressure, for others it’s being a heart surgeon, whilst others love travelling all over the world selling a particular product or idea.
