Inpassive voicesentences the object becomes the subject andreceivesthe action.  Example:The shin guards were worn by Harry. Thepassive voicerequires a "double verb" and will always consist of auxiliary verb and the past participle (usually the "en/ed/t" form) of another verb.  Example:  Active: Thando wears trainers. Passive: Trainers are worn by Thando.(“Areis an auxiliary verb.) Auxiliary verbs: am, is, are, was, were, be, being, been
Why use Active and Passive Voice? The sentence that uses theactive voiceis stronger, uses fewer words, and clearly shows who performs the action. The sentence that uses thepassive voiceis weaker and less direct. It is, however, not incorrect to use the passive voice. Sometimes thedoer of the actionis omitted in passive voice sentences. Example: The match was played. Changing from Active to Passive When changing a sentence from the active to the passive voice, there are a few changes that need to be made. 1.
