Description

Get ready for a journey to the Baskervilles - the hall shrouded in a fog of sinister mystery, and where the famous detective Sherlock Holmes and his faithful friend Dr. Watson encounter the most terrifying and deceitful of their opponents. Get ready to look directly into the dark soul of crime and let the Gothic atmosphere of one of the best works of the Victorian era carry you away. Can you feel the night fall? Over the countryside? How slowly and quietly the freezing fog opens its cold arms? The birds stop singing. The suffocating silence envelops the neighbourhood. Once again something unnatural and evil walks the house, lurking for unwary souls. Turn on the lights, lock the doors, close the shutters, hide under the bed covers... I'm not saying it will help, but what if?

Preface
It was in my childhood that I had the opportunity to meet the king of detectives. It was the Hound of the Baskervilles, on whose pages I first came across my all time favourite character of Victorian English literature - Sherlock Holmes. It’s hard to say what fascinated me more; the unique unwavering genius of the leading character, or the sublime atmosphere that radiated from the book’s pages. One thing is for certain, Sherlock Holmes caught me in his web of fantastic reasoning, unexpected deductions and shocking revelations and I have never let go since.
I have often pondered the question of what is so attractive about Sherlock Holmes that millions of people the world over can admire the intellect and qualities of a person who never existed. How is it possible that although everyone knows he is a fictional character, there are many people who actually mourn his death? It’s strange. The human brain is an extraordinary tool and it seems to be able to absorb and believe two contradictory ideas. Maybe a long scientific study is needed. Nevertheless, I have come up with a simple answer that is almost infuriating in its simplicity. The answer is:
Once you have eliminated the impossible, then what remains, however improbable, is...
... Sherlock Holmes
This is the first part of the Victoria Regina series. I created it at the same time as Dracula in 2010 and although I have the urge to rework Dracula a bit, I do not have the same feeling when it comes to the Hound of the Baskervilles. Even after all these years, I do not feel the need. It’s true that my approach to the stories that followed was a bit different, and included changes to the layout, but it is a matter of the heart, and when it comes to this, I am reluctant to make any significant changes.
The first edition in the Czech Republic was affected by the treacherous Moriarty and the book was published with appalling quality and was a terrible disappointment. On the other hand, it taught me that I need to oversee every detail that I can influence. If this had not happened then I would never have the first printouts checked over. You never know. There is no way this would happen with MX Publishing, but you see, Moriarty never sleeps.

Introduction
The Victoria Regina series is comprised of six books:
Sherlock Holmes: The Hound of the Baskervilles
Sherlock Holmes: The Final problem
Sherlock Holmes: A Scandal in Bohemia
The Lost World
Dracula
The Mysterious Castle in the Carpathians
Although these books are capable of standing alone, the subtext of their stories intertwines and so we recommend reading them all for a better understanding of the main story line. The good old Czech practice is that the books are not published in chronological order. Therefore we took the liberty of preparing a chronological timeline which shows the beginning of the plot of each comic book.
