Introduction
Draw Across the Curriculum provides Key Stage 2 children with numerous opportunities to improve the creative skills of drawing, thinking and imagination whilst fully supporting the themes and topics of the National Curriculum.
Being presented with a blank sheet of paper can be scary at any age. Some children lack conîdence in their drawing skills and înd it far less threatening to be presented with some images to copy, along with suggestions and ideas to follow. These artsheets provide a starting point and stimulus for the development of creative ideas which art can inspire. These sheets act as both an initial ice-breaker for children to take the plunge and actually get started, as well as a springboard to launch children into further drawing activity
Children can either work directly onto the photocopied artsheets or draw on plain paper using the artsheet instructions and ideas. All artsheets in this book are photocopiable, and the CD included also enables you to use these artsheets on an Interactive Whiteboard. Another option is for each child to draw one single element from the artsheet and the drawings can then be displayed together to make one large, whole class project.
Whichever approach is used, all the ideas can be extended and expanded. Some extension ideas are included in each chapter introduction.
Artsheets are useful as “add-ons” for children who have înished their class work ahead of time and need something stimulating to occupy them. The artsheets are also perfect for rainy playtimes, as well as for breakfast and after-school club activities, continuing themes and topics from regular classroom teaching.
Some of the artsheets focus on developing careful, detailed drawing styles, whilst others encourage more freedom and spontaneity. They all encourage inventiveness and creativity.
Art
These artsheets have been designed to encourage children to draw for fun and at the same time improve many drawing techniques. They can experiment with pattern and mark-making, try out dierent media such as charcoal or thin felt-tip pens, draw with perspective and work with colour.
Artsheets in this section include:  Everyday Sculpture
 Fairground Carousel
 Fishing Nets and Traps
 Scary Scarecrow
 Stepping Up
 Still Life with Fruit
 Palm Tree Paradise
Further extension ideas
Palm Tree Paradise Make large palm trees from card and use fringed coloured papers for the palm leaves. Print the trunks with patterns using potato prints. Assemble together in a long line for an impressive display.
Stepping Up Children can make blocks of stairs from cut-out, coloured, two-dimensional shapes. Assemble them all together in a huge colourful collage with stairs going o in all directions.
Everyday Sculpture Gather everyday objects from the home and classroom. Ask the children to assemble the objects into “faces”. They can draw the faces from these groupings. Also take photos of these 3-dimensional face collages to display in the classroom.
