But with insurance money to cover the theft and build a new education wing, no one is overly worried about getting the missing art back. The Statues of Gudea

• TwentY-seven statues discovered so far

• Statues depict Gudea, a ruler of Lagash in Southern Mesopotamia, who reigned for at least 11 Years

• General features: cYlindrical form, muscular arms, clasped hands, enlarged eYes

• Statues were designed to represent Gudea in temples so subjects could praY and make offerings

• Each statue bears a unique inscription

• EarlY statues were small and made of local stones such as limestone, steatite and alabaster

• Later statues were made of more expensive materials, such as diorite
