COURSE DESCRIPTION

State-of-the-Art Small Bowel Imaging: Review and Hands-on Tutorialis designed to provide a comprehensive overview of CT and MR techniques for the evaluation of small bowel disorders. World leaders in small bowel imaging will present the clinical rationale for and benefits of imaging, exam techniques and CT/MR imaging findings for a variety of small bowel disorders. State-of-the-art lectures will highlight emerging trends and developing technology currently utilized in clinical practice. Each module of the course will be highlighted by hands-on, interactive experiences on personal laptop computer workstations. The 2010 course will provide expanded case review opportunities and additional cases from the teaching files developed by Mayo Clinic Radiology and GI Departments. Group and individual review of cases will be facilitated by course faculty. Scientific sessions offered the first two days of the course will highlight ongoing research in Crohn’s disease imaging, integration of imaging into management and treatment decisions, enteroclysis technique, MR pulse sequences, and CT dose reduction and image quality.

COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

• Identify basic and advanced techniques in CT and MR evaluation of Crohn’s disease, obscure GI bleeding, and low-grade small bowel obstruction. • Recognize the CT and MR enterographic features of Crohn’s disease, small bowel tumors, and other causes of obscure GI bleeding. • Describe the advantages and disadvantages of various MR vs. CT small bowel imaging techniques. • Review the clinical indications for CT and MR enterography in various small bowel disorders. • Choose appropriate enteric contrast media based on clinical indications. • Predict the clinical impact of emerging trends in small bowel imaging. • Describe advances in Crohn’s disease diagnostic, medical, and surgical management algorithms.

State-of-the-Art Small Bowel Imaging: Review and Hands-on Tutorialis designed for practicing radiologists, gastroenterologists, and other healthcare providers caring for patients with small bowel disease.

The State-of-the-Art Small Bowel Imaging: Review and Hands-on Tutorial will be held Friday, October 22 through Sunday, October 24, 2010. Course headquarters will be at Camelback Inn-A JW Marriott Hotel & Spa, 5402 East Lincoln Drive, Scottsdale, Arizona.

Although it is not Mayo School of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) or Department of Radiology CME policy to limit the number of registrants for a course, conference room facilities may necessitate closing of enrollment; therefore, early registration is advised. TRAVEL Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is a 20-minute drive from Camelback Inn and is served by most major airlines. Abstract Submission

ABSTRACTS Overview:As part of theState of the Art Small Bowel Imaging: Review and Hands-on Tutorial, oral presentations are being solicited for presentation of original research focusing on Crohn’s disease imaging, integration of imaging with management and treatment decisions, enteroclysis technique, MR pulse sequences, CT dose reduction, US or PET imaging, resident and fellow training, and image quality. Clinical imaging algorithms, guidelines, randomized trials, outcome studies, practice innovations, or descriptive analyses are also appropriate. Oral presentations will be chosen from all abstracts received by the JulY 30, 2010submission deadline.

Abstract EligibilitY:Original abstracts that either have or have not been presented at other meetings will be considered. Abstracts are eligible if they have been published; abstracts based upon full papers that have been published are also eligible.

Research Competition:Outstanding abstracts will be selected for oral presentation at theState of the Art Small Bowel Imaging: Review and Hands-on Tutorial. Oral scientific sessions are an integral part of the program for the first two days of the conference.

Abstract Directions and Format:Abstracts for papers should be limited to 250 words and divided into four paragraphs with the following headings: Purpose, Methods, Results, and Conclusions (including clinical relevance). Abstracts should be submitted via e-mail to the address below in a one-page WORD document using Arial 11 font and 1-inch margins (top, bottom, left, right). Inclusion of tables and images is acceptable, but must be within the one-page abstract document. The title should be listed in capitalized letters at the top of the abstract in bold font. The complete list of authors should be placed below the title with relevant degrees, and include medical institution and department. The corresponding author should be underlined, with address, e-mail, phone and FAX of the corresponding author provided between the author list and the abstract itself. Oral presentations will be 7 minutes in length followed by a 3-minute discussion period.

Deadline:Abstract submission deadline is July 30, 2010.

Notification of Results:All primary authors will be notified by August 13, 2010, if their submission has been selected for oral presentation.

Printing of Abstracts:Abstracts chosen for presentation will be printed and distributed at the course.

Presentation Format:Oral presentations must be in PowerPoint format and must be received by our office by September 10, 2010, with further details provided upon acceptance.
