These lights require much less electricity; only three watts per bulb compared to 40 for the current lighting. They are also now available in the same color temperature as incandescent bulbs. With a lifespan of up to 100,000 hours, replacing the current bulbs with LEDs could have a payback period of approximately six years. If UL approval is necessary continue to watch for these bulbs as there are currently products with a pending approval.
