INTRODUCTION Are variations in factual knowledge regarding a political issue connected to one's opinion about it? Posing this question, the current study addresses a fundamental aspect of the nature of individual political behavior; the relationship between reason and sentiment in human conduct. More specifically, the study is concerned with the way knowledge and opinion interact and therefore also about the way people think when they participate in political life.
