Description
G. Chouquer proposed two cadastral orientations for the Valence region. They have been confirmed by salvage excavations inside the city of Valence — in the festival hall and in the Prefecture — .
The first excavations have confirmed the trends of the B cadastre in the ancient substratum of the city which has been dated back to the end of the Augustean age, according to the analysis of the remains of the buildings.
The second excavations have entailed corrections : a farm building — with no direct link with the urban network — allowed to say that the B cadastre existed in 15/10 B.C. : it is previous to the urbanisation stage of the north east area of the city which points out an extension and differs from the rest because it has structured and volunteer aspect. The excavation of a section of the cardo maximus and of a secundary decumanus, oriented N-23° E, showed that the roads network was achieved at the end of the lrst century B.C. uphill from urban buildings. The building only appears at the end of the Augustean age as on the first site.
