Description

A soldier haunted by his past must survive his present to tackle a future threat. Janson is not a hero; he is simply a man doing a job that needs to be done. In the near future the UN have a new police force, known affectionately as ‘Hunters’, their role is to cross borders bringing to justice criminals once thought to be untouchable. But what happens when the Hunter becomes the prey?

When I created the character Janson , by no stretch of the imagination did I want him to be seen as a hero. He is broken down, flawed and ready to die but something deep inside won’t let him. It’s not Scottish pride - more stubbornness coupled with a deep rooted survival instinct that he cannot turn off. All the characters are flawed, either mentally or physically, but together they are greater than the sum total of their individual parts.
The backdrop of an independent Scotland came out of my fierce political nature as a twenty-something. The Scot inside me takes great exception to being told what to do by some public school prick in Westminster who has no experience of living in the real world. In 1990 when I wrote the first Hunter, Hunted script independence was only a pipedream. Of course, as I have become older - and maybe a little wiser - I can see that being part of a larger trading block is a good thing. It makes more sense for Scotland to be a part of a united Europe than a fragmenting Britain. That’s for politicians and voters to decide... But we know from history what can happen when the people stand up to Westminster and the political ‘elite’ in London.
At the heart of this book is a simple action adventure thriller and I hope you get as much a kick out of reading it as I had making it. Of course I have the added bonus of working with an exceptional artist, Mick Trimble (check out his work on Bloodfellas with Jasper Bark), and the brilliant editor/writer Richmond Clements. Mick has really brought the story to life visually as it was originally intended. Under Richmond’s guidance Hunter, Hunted has regained the heart and soul that was kicked out of it by television producers demanding the removal of regional dialect. My wonderful friend Yvonne edited the novel version and gave up so much of her valuable time to make me realize the story still deserved to be seen, giving me confidence to let the team at Markosia bring it to print properly. Thanks must also go to Paul Fry who stepped up to the plate at the last minute to produce a stunning cover which really catches the tone and spirit of the book.
Thanks to Harry for having faith in us.
All that remains is for me to hope you enjoy a story that has been a long time coming.
