« GRAVITATION, GRAVIMETRY, SATELLITE GEODESY AND GEOPHYSICS » by members of BGI and Groupe de Recherches de Géodésie Spatiale, Toulouse, France Abstract This tutorial, which appears in French for the moment (the official language of IUGG !), is updated from the text of a conference initially written in 1989. It deals with generalities in the domain corresponding to the nouns composing its title, with simple words and no big formula. It is aimed at getting people acquainted with concepts which geodesists and geophysicists manipulate every day, with their vocabulary, also at showing what are present problems and ideas to solve them. Le second type, la gravitation, est des plus importants en Astronomie et dans le domaine des Sciences de la Terre. On sait que, alors agé de moins de trente ans, Isaac Newton (1643-1727) donna une description mathématique correcte des lois de la gravitation : cette loi prédit que deux corps ponctuels massiques s'attirent avec une force proportionnelle au produit des masses et inversement ...
