IntroductionStatnet comprises a suite of R (R Development Core Team 2007) packages for the analysisof social networks and other relational data. Previous papers in this issue describe in detailthe functionality for most of these packages, and the underlying statistical theory behind it.In this paper we illustrate some of the functionality of three core packages within the statnetsuite — network, sna, and ergm — through a tutorial-based analysis of a friendship networkwith 1,461 vertices.Readers of a more methodical nature may wish to examine the rest of the papers in this issuefirst.
