Description
The aim of this study is to analyse the strategies physical education teachers choose to develop when they elaborate their courses. Three levels can be distinguished when they elaborate the contents of their courses (macro/ meso/micro-structural levels). The premise set out here is that P.E. teachers select from the nationally set curriculum (macro-structural level) those activities compatible with the local conditions, thus endowing the local curricula with legitimacy (meso-structural level). A comparison between two secondary schools belonging to very similar local contexts, made it possible all the more so to validate the premise and to draw specific conclusions. The investigation has been limited on grounds of feasibility, to the swimming activity. The choices of content have been classified according to the tnree structural levels defined by the theorical frame. The results of this classification make it possible to conclude to a recourse to adaptative and interpretative strategies regarding the national prescriptions and to highlight the importance of meso-structural origin justifications for P.E. teachers.
