Federal Reserve Bankll★Kof DallasDALLAS, TEXAS 75265-5906July 18, 2000Notice 2000-44TO: The Chief Executive Officer of eachfinancial institution and others concernedin the Eleventh Federal Reserve DistrictSUBJECTRequest for Public Comment onInteragency Guidelines EstablishingStandards for Safeguarding Customer Informationand Rescission of Year 2000 Standards for Safety and SoundnessDETAILSThe Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Office of the Comptrollerof the Currency, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and the Office of Thrift Supervision(collectively, the agencies) have requested public comment on proposed guidelines establishingstandards for safeguarding customer information published to implement sections 501 and505(b) of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.Section 501 requires the agencies to establish appropriate standards for the financialinstitutions subject to their respective jurisdictions relating to administrative, technical, andphysical safeguards for customer records and information. These safeguards will:• Insure the security and confidentiality of customer records and information;• Protect against any anticipated threats or hazards to the security or integrity ofsuch records; and• Protect against unauthorized access to or use of such records or information thatcould result in substantial harm or inconvenience to any customer.For additional copies, bankers and others are encouraged to use one of the following ...
