THOMPSON, JR. COMPTROLLER To the Citizens of the City of New York Ladies and Gentlemen: In accordance with the Comptroller’s responsibilities contained in Chapter 5, § 93, of the New York City Charter, my office has audited the Department of Buildings (DOB) to determine the adequacy of its Queens Quality of Life Unit’s response to complaints. The DOB is responsible for the safe and lawful use of more than 950,000 buildings and properties throughout the five boroughs by enforcing the City’s Building Code, Electrical Code, Zoning Resolution, and other laws applicable to the construction and alteration of buildings. Audits such as this provide a means of ensuring that agencies are adequately addressing quality of life issues. The results of our audit, which are presented in this report, have been discussed with DOB officials, and their comments were considered in the preparation of this report.
