Through the years I ve received countless letters and e-mails from people around the world asking various questions about spiritual warfare. Thank you for taking the time to write. You are one reason I wrote this book.
During the writing of this book, my long-time friend Norman Geisler exited earthly life and entered heavenly glory. He was one of my primary mentors at Dallas Theological Seminary in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Little did I know as a seminary student that I would one day be doing conferences with him and even writing some books with him. I continue to be appreciative for all I ve learned from him through the decades-including such doctrines as angelology and demonology. His legacy lives on in his many students.

T hank you for joining me in this exciting journey through God s Word. I wrote this book to help Christians understand what Scripture says about spiritual warfare, both now and into the prophetic end times. My hope and prayer is that as you read this book, you will attain
a better understanding of spiritual warfare and how knowledge of this warfare can benefit your life spiritually, emotionally, and even physically;
an awareness-perhaps for the first time in your life-of the specific tactics Satan is most likely to use against you this year and the years that follow as we move into the end times;
insights into the ways Satan can gain a stronghold in your life-as well as what you can do to prevent it and what you can do if he already has one;
an understanding about the gang attack-composed of the world, the flesh, and the devil-that daily confronts you;
an awareness of how satanic and demonic attacks will intensify in the end times, especially in the years that immediately precede the second coming of Christ;
a strong conviction about how staying close to Jesus is one of the most important factors in your victory in spiritual warfare. (The sheep who are the safest from the wolves are those who stay nearest the Shepherd.) Jesus victory becomes our victory;
insights about the pivotal role of the Holy Spirit (the Spirit of truth ) in overcoming the devil (the father of lies );

Satan and Demons in the End Times
As we consider a who s who of important persons in the end times, we think about the antichrist, the false prophet, the 144,000 Jewish witnesses, and the two great prophets who manifest supernatural powers similar to those of Moses and Elijah. Less emphasized by many students of the prophetic Word are the roles of God s angels, Satan, and demons, even though their activities are pervasive in the end times.
Biblical prophecy reveals that satanic and demonic activities will increase as we progress toward the end times. As Mark Hitchcock puts it, according to Scripture, demonic activity and spiritual warfare will increase dramatically in frequency and intensity during the end times (see Revelation 9) We can expect demonic activity to ramp up as the end times draw near, and it appears that s just what s happening. 1
Please allow me to give you a few end-time highlights from the pages of Scripture. First, did you know that a great angelic battle in the heavenlies will transpire at the midpoint of the tribulation period? It will be a sight to behold! Here s what Revelation 12:7-9 says about it:
Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world-he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.
Satan becomes ferocious at this turn of events. He immediately kicks into high gear. John speaks of a loud voice from heaven that describes the devil s wrathful fervor this way: Woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short! (Revelation 12:12). Satan knows he now has only three and a half years before Jesus glorious second coming, and therefore goes forth with a vengeance to do as much damage as he can on earth, especially against Jews and Christians.
Satan will work powerfully through the antichrist during the tribulation period. Revelation 13:2 tell us that Satan will give the antichrist his power and his throne and great authority. Second Thessalonians 2:9 likewise informs us: The coming of the lawless one [the antichrist] is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders. This means that the antichrist will be virtually energized by the devil, and for that reason, the character of the antichrist will reflect that of the devil. Two examples will suffice:
1. The Antichrist Deceives the Same Way Satan Does. We learn from Scripture that Satan is the father of lies (John 8:44). He originates and inspires lies and deception. In fact, Satan is a master deceiver and the greatest among all liars. His lies are often religious, distorting the biblical picture of God, Jesus, and the true gospel. Satan is the deceiver of the whole world (Revelation 12:9).
Because Satan is the father of lies and the deceiver of the whole world, i
