A Note from Pastor Jentezen
T hank you so much for joining me on this journey of Overcoming When You Feel Overwhelmed .
Are you facing a hard situation? Have your circumstances changed unexpectedly? Has something happened that you never dreamed would? If we’re honest with ourselves, many of us would reply with a resounding Yes!
We’re living on the edge of eternity, close to the coming return of Jesus Christ. Because of this, the enemy is digging his heels in our lives, determined to get us and keep us dispirited, diverted from what’s most important, and dependent on things other than God. It’s no coincidence that your depression has felt darker or that your temptations have been hurled at you with greater strength and at higher speed.
I know the giants you face may be bigger than you are. But don’t measure your problems against yourself. Measure them against your God. It’s been rightly said that we tend to talk to God about our problems when we should be talking to our problems about our mighty, faithful God.
Jeremiah 29:13 gives us this wonderful promise: “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”
No matter what you’re going through, no matter what you face, God promises you the reward of His presence when you seek after Him. King David, the psalmist, continually encouraged himself not in the seeming stability of his circumstances or in his military might, but in his relationship with God. He valued it above anything else. And rightly so. No, David wasn’t perfect, but his pursuit of God was continual and intentional. It’s the reason God called him “a man after My own heart” (Acts 13:22). And I believe the same can be true of you and me.
It’s time to face down those frightening voices and step into your destiny, a destiny that God has ordained for you in what may feel like troubling times in these last days.
Let’s get started and find out how!
How to Use This Guide
You can work through this study guide in a group setting or on your own. It’s formatted to work together with my book Overcoming When You Feel Overwhelmed and the accompanying video segments. If you haven’t read the book or won’t get a chance to watch the video segments, don’t worry. There’s plenty of content here that will help you begin, today, to activate growth in your life.
This study guide is divided into six sessions. Each session includes the following: Big Idea —a big main idea to introduce the session Review —a quick look back at the previous session (included in sessions 2–6) Get Started —a segment that sets the stage for the video session and the group discussions to follow Think about This —a deeply thought-provoking question or idea related to the session Video Session —space to make a few notes as you watch the video Go Deeper —a set of in-depth group discussion questions drawn from the Bible, the book and real-life examples Wrap It Up —a segment of closing thoughts and a closing prayer Personal Application and Reflection —four days of personal study outside your small group to reflect on what you’ve learned, deepen your relationship with God and encourage you to endure in the fight of faith (this part is best done between sessions)
What You’ll Need
Unless otherwise marked, all the Scripture references in this guide are offered in the New King James Version ( NKJV ). If you prefer a different version, keep a Bible or Bible app handy to look up the verses in the translation of your choice.
If you have a copy of my book Overcoming When You Feel Overwhelmed , this study guide and my optional but in-depth and encouraging video teachings, you’ll be on your way to taking the steps you need to live as an overcomer in the days we face in these last times.
While it’s not necessary, since some space is provided for writing your thoughts in this guide, also feel free to use a journal or digital device to jot down more extensive notes or to record anything that speaks to you during your study and reflection.

SESSION 1 You Are on a Prophetic Journey
Big Idea
God has you and your family on a prophetic journey. This means that if you trust Him, you are held in His hand. So many times, our ordinary comings and goings seem insignificant, when in fact they are leading to an encounter with God that will change everything. God is working it out while you are walking it out.
Get Started
If you have already begun reading Overcoming When You Feel Overwhelmed , you may remember the following paragraph that I wrote to introduce part 1, “Destined to Overcome.” It bears repeating here, however:
Have you ever been through a season in your life where you just can’t understand it? Where you try tracing the line of your past to your present, but it doesn’t seem to tell you anything about your future? Often, we forget that our life has an Author—a loving Father in heaven who chose to write our name into His story. And He wants to tell a fascinating story through our days . . . if we’ll let Him.
God indeed wants to tell a fascinating story through our lives. In case you haven’t noticed, however, the enemy has posed a radical attack on the Church today—on you and me. Our world, our communities, our homes are facing unparalleled moral, mental, spiritual, racial, social, financial, emotional and physical crises, to name a few. This is not by coincidence. Nor are these agitations simply consequences of living in a fallen world. The attacks we face today in our personal lives and in our world are part of a much larger attack the enemy has intensified because Jesus is coming soon.
“To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation” (Hebrews 9:28). That’s the good news. However, before Jesus returns, Satan is committed to taking down as many people as he can with him.
In the early days of the Church, the soon return of Jesus was ever impressed upon the hearts and minds of the people. It was always in the conversation of the saints. It permeated their thinking. In the New Testament Church, when people would greet one another they would use the word maranatha , which means “the Lord cometh” or “the Lord is coming.” It was the way they identified with one another as Christians.
Yet a shift has happened just over the last two centuries. Not much emphasis is placed on the end times, and yet we are living in a time marked with prophetic promises. God is allowing us to see events unfolding that the ancient prophets only saw in visions and dreams. When we ignore, or set aside, this teaching we should be passing down to a
