A True Story of Homosexuality, Hope and RedemptionHomosexuality, prostitution, pornography, cults--secret sins rival the glitter of Hollywood for young actor David Kyle Foster. Winning wholesome television roles, his star on the rise, he is relieved to be free from his father's harshness. But the desperate loneliness and sexual obsession that characterized his youth now accompany his rise to success--and bondage to a double life seems the only answer. Can Jesus' love reach one so broken?Whether you're grappling with your own darkness or know someone who is, this gripping and inspiring memoir shows you that, no matter how bleak it may seem, there is always hope: God can heal and restore the soul that hungers for love.

“I’ve had the privilege of being David’s friend and pastor for 7 years. After nearly 25 years in the pastorate and thousands of people later, I can say that I’ve never heard a more remarkable testimony than his. Grace, redemption, freedom and fruitfulness are all personified in David Foster.”
Steve Berger, founding pastor, Grace Chapel, Franklin, Tennessee
“For anyone who has any sexual regrets (and who doesn’t?), this book is a gift. Here is a modern and very personal retelling of a story as old as the Gospel, a story of creation, fall, redemption and restoration. If you need to understand a wandering prodigal—yourself or someone else—by all means read this book.”
Nate Larkin , founder, Samson Society; author, Samson and the Pirate Monks
“In Love Hunger , we are able to see into the life of a ‘man after God’s own heart.’ David shares his story with transparent vulnerability—an unusual mix. We are rarely willing to be both vulnerable and transparent about family, sin, pitfalls and triumphs at the same time. Most often we try to control one or the other. This humble man invites you to see into all of his life so that you might experience the power and glory of His life in you.”
Rick Kardos , co-founder and executive director, Nathan Project, www.nathanproject.net
“Not only the world, but God’s Church, so heavily sunk and trapped in sexual bondage, desperately needs to hear this story! David’s testimony candidly reveals how the Lord took him deeply and fully into forgiveness of his father, and how each struggle against compulsive behaviors drove him into knowing beyond doubt that only God’s patient grace ever truly delivers us, not our striving to be free. I plead, dear people, read this book with a heart humbly driven into the persistent love of our Father for even the worst of sinners—and for you.”
John Loren Sandford , author; founder, Elijah House
“In my work in Christian media, I have found David Kyle Foster to be a fascinating interview. He once said he had more than a thousand gay sexual encounters before the Lord saved him. Here is his amazing autobiography, including his experiences in Hollywood in the 1970s. This book is a fascinating read. David is a modern-day trophy of the grace of God.”
Jerry Newcombe, TV producer; author; co-host, Kennedy Classics and Truth That Transforms
“David Kyle Foster’s story is profoundly personal and completely transparent. From the lurid details of wrestling with sexual predators and an exploitive drug culture in Hollywood, Foster lifts the reader gently into the transition to a transformed life of Christian hope and healing, without sparing the Church and theological institutions from their own honest and difficult struggles. He makes both struggle and salvation real. His story is challenging yet joyfully heart-lifting.”
Rev . Dr . Henry L . (“ Laurie ”) Thompson , dean of doctoral studies and advancement, associate professor of liturgical studies, Trinity School for Ministry, Ambridge, Pennsylvania
“Each time I have heard David Kyle Foster share his story, I have been deeply impacted. It’s not so much the details of the journey but more significantly the way David describes his movement closer to knowing God and His redeeming love. This isn’t just knowing about God’s Father-heart for him, but experiencing it and appropriating it in every part of his life. I pray this book will be a catalyst by which many hurting and imprisoned souls will find healing, freedom and restoration.”
Rev . Paul Watson , Ellel Ministries Australia
“ Love Hunger , the title and theme of David Kyle Foster’s new book, is itself the major root of the sexual identity confusion he experienced (and the level of brokenness that is so common in our modern day). Though never glossing over sin, it is with clarity and tenderness combined that David shows us the power of redeeming love. Thank you, David, that your life, as well as your work, demonstrates that God’s miracles can last for years.”
Betsy and Chester Kylstra , Restoring the Foundations, Hendersonville, North Carolina
This book is dedicated to the memory of my father and my mother, the Reverend Philip Kyle Foster and Betty Carey Foster (Price). Neither could have imagined the kind of wild child that they would get in having me, but they did their best before God. I am not only a testimony to the unbelievable grace of God, but also a testimony to the power of the prayers of parents whose loved one(s) have gone astray. I will be forever in their debt for their unwavering and persevering prayers.

Foreword
C hristianity can be separated from any other religion or cult on the basis of one question: By what means are you accepted? Only Christianity offers unconditional love and acceptance with no hoops to jump through, but that is not always how the Church is perceived, nor is it always practiced by those who profess to be Christians. Such was the case for David Foster, who was the son of a preacher. He desperately wanted the love and acceptance of his father, but he never got it growing up. Rules without relationships lead to rebellion, and that is the path David chose, like so many other troubled teens.
Overbearing authoritarianism often drives children to escape the inevitable conflicts at home. Attempts at running away or taking one’s own life can be a cry for help, but those often lead to severe punishment and even tighter restraints. Children caught in that cycle do not feel good about themselves, so many turn to alcohol and drugs to numb the pain. When asked why he used drugs, one teenager said, “That is the only time I feel good about myself.” If this happens in a supposedly “Christian” context, God appears to be a distant judge rather than a loving Savior. Such rebellion is not just against parents, but against any authority figure, including God.
The sexual revolution was well underway when David left home for college, and the liberal “Christian” college he attended was a hotbed for sex and drugs. Rebellious and insecure teens have little or no defense against such peer pressure, and David fell right into it. David, like many who struggle with sexual identity confusion, was not sure when and where same-sex attractions started to surface, but there is always a cause and an effect. For many it begins with sexual abuse. Legalistic authoritarianism and parental role reversals are often mentioned by those who struggle. For many it just begins as a battle for their minds. Misguided people can tease someone and make accusations and subtle suggestions, which ruminate in the mind. We also have been warned that in later days, people will pay attention to deceiving spirits and be led astray from their faith (see 1 Timothy 4:1). I know from experience that this is happening all over the world.
Same-sex attraction may begin as nothing more than a tempting thought, which could be brushed aside. If the tempting thoughts continue and are entertained, however, they will eventually affect how a person feels. If people in that condition start to wonder, Why am I thinking these thoughts? , they may start questioning their sexuality. Such people believe the lie when they conclude that they are gay, because it would be hypocritical not to believe what you feel. That is the devil’s definition of hypocrisy. Christian hypocrisy is to profess to believe something and not live accordingly. If people act upon their homosexual impulses, they are using their bod
