Description

The study covers Muslim economic thought from the emergence of Islam, long before economics became a separate discipline with distinctive analytical tools. The economic environment in ancient Arabia from which Islam emerged is examined, and the economic concepts in the Qur'ān and Sunnah are discussed, as well as the thinking of early Muslim jurists. Detailed consideration is given to Islamic economic thought during the dynasties of the Umayyads and the Abbasids, periods of administrative and economic reform, as well as of much latter developments under the Ottomans, Safawids and Moghuls. Islamic revivalist reform movements are appraised, as these predated the reawakening of interest in Islamic economics in the last century, and subsequent profusion of writing, with the works of the leading contributors reviewed in this volume.

Preface Islamic Management Preface History tells us that several old civilizations have practiced management, however, management as a science and a field of study is considered a new concept which th appeared by the start of the 20 century due to the interventions of machines in the daily lives of people, the massive increase in the population of the world and the rapid economic growth. The modern concepts of management were evolved by the western thinkers and philosophers such as Fredrick W. Taylor; Henri Fayol; Elton Mayo; Peter F Drucker; W. Edward Deming. Their books and philosophies have been taught since decades in all over the world; however, they were not the first to present their theories and models of management. Islam, being a complete code of life and a comprehensive religion, presented its concepts of management for the humanity more than 1400 years ago. Islam is not a religion that only focuses on the private life of individuals, but also covers and guides humans’ interaction and activities in their daily lives. Unfortunately, its teaching, especially related to business are not highlighted and propagated as it should be. This textbook aims to discuss management from an Islamic perspective relying on the Holy Quran and Sunnah of prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This textbook is basically designed to meet the needs of undergraduate students taking the "Islamic Management" course. The book contains four chapters.
