Description

When Carol Floch realized that her marriage was about to end and that she was about to join the ranks of moms left to raise their children on their own, she could not stop crying. She mourned her shattered hopes and grieved the loss of the family she had always dreamed of. But mostly, she cried for her children. Into Carol's grief, regret, and fear, God's Spirit came with a message from Psalm 84: Build your nest near my altar, and I will be your children's source of security, protection, provision, and blessing. In The Single Mom's Devotional, Carol tells her story and shares with the sisterhood of single moms how they can build their family's nest in the protective shadow of God's presence. Single mothers, whether on their own after a divorce or a husband's death, will discover how to find true life in Christ and allow the strength of that inner life to be the compass by which they navigate an unpredictable future. Near God's altar, the cross of Christ is where single moms will discover life through relinquishment, power through dependence, and hope through surrender. Anchored at the foot of the cross, readers will find daily security and hope as they nourish their souls and nurture their children at a place near God's altar.

FOREWORD
by Karol Ladd
Do you remember the first day when you added the title of “Mom” to your life? Along with new and sometimes challenging responsibilities, there was also a love that developed deep within your soul, which few words can describe. Being a mom is filled with delight, mixed with a little fear and a small dose of stretching us beyond our comfort zone. If we are going to be quite honest, motherhood isn’t all that easy. Add to the mix parenting alone, and the role of motherhood can become downright overwhelming.
When it comes to single parenting, you are not alone. There are two different messages in that one statement. You are not alone, because there are many other moms who are walking down the same path as you. The number of single moms in our nation has dramatically increased over the last 30 years. You must admit there is a small amount of comfort in knowing that you are not the only one who is traveling this path of parenting alone. But most importantly, you are not alone because there is a God who loves you and welcomes you to turn to Him for guidance, comfort and help. This is a book that points you toward His loving care and walks with you down a path of finding your security and strength in Him.
The Single Mom’s Devotional offers you a resource of biblical wisdom and comfort to your soul. Written by a mom who has walked down the road of single parenting herself, this devotional will meet you right where you are. In her penetrating yet relational style, Carol Floch opens up God’s Word to you in a fresh and meaningful way as a single mom. Her personal examples from her own journey serve as a rich backdrop to the beauty that is illuminated from God’s Word. In each of the 52 devotionals you will find truth for yourself, and you will also discover important truths to share with your children.
Carol not only speaks and writes with wisdom gleaned from God’s Word; she also lives it. I have been a close friend of Carol’s for over 10 years and have watched her apply God’s grace, love and wisdom in her daily life. More importantly, I have seen her encourage her children’s growth and dependence on the Lord. Without a doubt, Carol has found her strength in the Lord as she has raised her three precious daughters as a single parent.
This devotional is unique, because it is written for you, specifically as a single mom. Carol has included truth from God’s Word, personal application, quotes from godly men and women and important ways to enrich your children’s relationship with the Lord. Many single parents feel alone, but the blessing is that you have resources like this to help you along your journey. You can use this devotional for your own personal spiritual growth or you can join with other single moms to learn from God’s Word together. Either way, you are sure to find joy and strength from the stories, examples and biblical wisdom found in these pages.
What is the key to raising children on your own as a Christian? If I were to put it into one word, I would say “abide.” Jesus said, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing“ (John 15:5). This devotional draws you into a place of abiding in Him. The intent is to help you find a place close to His altar and abi
