Description

This book is surely a blessing not only to those who are presently in leadership but also to those who aspire to leadership. It is comforting to know from this book that leaders are not only born but are also made. In the chapter on Categories of Leaders, the author provides a mirror through which every leader can view himself or herself and make adjustments as necessary.

The author's insight and understanding of the concept of true leadership is evidently displayed from chapter to chapter. One of the major reasons why this book is so captivating is in the expression of truth about various characters or persons that were referred to in this narrative. These characters and persons were drawn from historical, biblical, personal and contemporary examples of true leadership or otherwise.

Many occupy leadership positions today. However, you are not a leader because someone called you a leader. Leadership is in action and not in name. Leaders are both born and made. This means that not everyone is born with leadership skills. Some acquire these skills as they go through life and mature. A leader is a person that motivates and inspires other people to follow him (or her) or his (or her) ideas and beliefs.

This book seeks to examine the qualities a leader must possess to inspire followership. After all said and done, no one can call himself a leader if there are no followers.

FOREWORD
Ola Zaccheus has added another master piece to the literary world in ‘True Leader’ . From this book, we gain a clearer perspective of what true leadership is – and of course, what it is not.

INTRODUCTION
Many occupy leadership positions today. However, you are not a leader because someone called you a leader. Leadership is in action and not in name. Leaders are both born and made. This means that not everyone is born with leadership skills. Some acquire these skills as they go through life and mature. A leader is a person that motivates and inspires other people to follow him (or her) or his (or her) ideas and beliefs.

This book seeks to examine the qualities a leader must possess to inspire followership. After all said and done, no one can call himself a leader if there are no followers.

The phrase ‘True Leader’ presupposes that there are false leaders. False leaders do exist and for some time they may function like true leaders. One may not even know that these ‘leaders’ are false except by the gift of discernment or the existence of some events that unveils the reactions of the ‘leader’.

Judas Iscariot, one of the leaders appointed by the Lord Jesus Christ, was a thief. Only Jesus knew he was a thief. Everyone else thought he was generous and zealous for the poor especially in the below instance when he protested the ‘waste’ of valuable ointment by Mary Magdalene.

‘Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. But one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, who would betray Him, said, “Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it.’ (John 12:3-6 NKJV)

If you are in a leadership position, this book will help you to hone your leadership skills. If you are a follower, this book will give valuable insight on what to expect from your leader. You can also get valuable nuggets on how to aspire to leadership.

This book will help you to see that most people are occupying leadership and followership positions at the same time. For example, Sir Richard Branson is the owner of the Virgin Group. However, as a citizen of the United Kingdom, he is subject to the Prime Minister, who now happens to be Mrs Theresa May. Also, a man may be at the very bottom of the organisational chart of the company he works for. Yet, that same man could be a leader at home over his wife and children.
