A NOTE ON THE AUTHORS
Yasmin Karachiwala is amongst the most well known of Mumbai s fitness professionals. She is the founder and director of Body Image, a personal training fitness studio located in Bandra. Her journey into the world of health and fitness began with her own discovery of her level of fitness over twenty-two years ago, and since then, she has committed her professional life to promoting health, fitness and overall quality of life. A mother of two, she is a role model for youngsters and adults alike. She practises what she preaches, and is extremely fit herself. Her credo has always been about not just looking good, but also feeling good, and being healthy and energetic.
Yasmin s skill set is broad and deep. She is the only Balanced Body Master Trainer in India, certified faculty for Mat, Reformer, CoreAlign and Motr. She is also the only BASI (Body Arts and Science International)-certified Pilates instructor in India, and specializes in mat work as well as the utilization of different machines (Reformer, Cadallac, CoreAlign, Wunda Chair, etc.). She has trained in many institutions globally, and on an ongoing basis, stays abreast of emerging principles in the world of fitness. Her approach towards promoting fitness and health includes not just weight loss, but also improvement of posture, coordination, strength, flexibility and endurance. She believes that a body that performs well bio-mechanically, automatically functions more efficiently, burns more fat and performs better overall.
At Body Image, Yasmin uses a variety of modalities and equipment for fitness training. Her focus is on individual assessments and designing highly-customized fitness programmes for each member based on their requirements, goals, likes, dislikes, and body type.
She is highly respected in fitness circles, and her advice is frequently solicited. She was the official fitness expert for the Pantaloons Femina Miss India 2011 contest, and trained all of the contestants. She has made a multitude of appearances on television, including being a jury member on Get Gorgeous and featuring in an NDTV fitness show with Kim Sharma. She has also appeared regularly in the print media (Mother and Baby, TIMES OF INDIA - ROUGE, Hi! Blitz ), and as a talk show guest on Fitness Radio FM 93.7. She has written multiple articles for newspapers and magazines like Bombay Times , Mumbai Mirror and Vogue .
She is a well-known name and an extremely sought-after fitness expert in Bollywood circles. Her personal training clientele include high-profile individuals such as Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor, Karishma Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Sohail Khan, Malaika Arora Khan, Bipasha Basu, Sonakshi Sinha, Sonam Kappor, Ileana D cruz, Preity Zinta, Imran Khan, Kunal Kapoor, Zoya Akhtar, Anita Raaj, Neha Dhupia, Arjun Rampal, Mehr Jesia, Zareen Khan, Yuvraj Singh, Ajit Agarkar and Zaheer Khan.

Zeena Dhalla is a premier personal trainer and Pilates instructor in Orange County. She is the founder of Vertical Pilates, the first vertical-only Pilates studio in the US. Zeena graduated with a degree in communications from Northwestern University, one of the top-ranked universities in the US. Her fitness education includes her Pilates course from BASI (Body Arts and Sciences International) where she received certifications in mat, Reformer, Trapeze Table, Wunda Chair and Ladder Barrel. She has her personal training certification from NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine), and her CoreAlign certification from Balanced Body University. She has also completed coursework in integrative flexibility from NASM, and is a trained wellness coach. She has recently been certified as a postural specialist from the National Posture Institute.
Zeena has worked for years as a mentor and instructor for many fitness professionals, having served as a manager in the fitness industry for many years. She was the owner and operator of the Athletic Club for Women, in Newport Beach, California, where she grew the Pilates programme there by over 200 per cent during her ownership period. She then went on to serve as Pilates director for the Orange County division of YogaWorks, the premier Pilates and yoga studio in Orange County. She has taught courses in sales and business development for fledgling fitness professionals.
Zeena has been featured as a writer and fitness model by OC Squeeze, OC Metro, OC Register, and on the television show Daybreak OC . She was recently featured in Pilates Style magazine as the author and model for Pilates for Baby Boomers . Zeena has served on the board of directors for the National Association for Women Business Owners. Her philanthropic responsibilities include fundraising for organizations such as HelpUsAdopt.org , Relay for Life Cancer, and A Little Bit of Sunshine (that funds orphanages in India and Nepal).
Since becoming a mom to her daughter (she and her husband adopted from Kolkata in 2008), Zeena has focused on maintaining the balance between work and motherhood. Her clients love her for being tough and demanding on their form, but gentle and encouraging in her coaching. She believes that fitness is far more than fitting into a tight pair of pants, and that achieving wellness starts from within. No self-deprecating talk is the motto in her studio, and she wants everyone to walk out feeling stronger, leaner and, most importantly, more confident in themselves.

I first met Yasmin Karachiwala at a party. I had gained quite a bit of weight and she told me she could help me lose it. At first, we started with functional training as she was still setting up her Pilates studio; as soon as it was ready, we moved on to Pilates.
The best thing about Pilates is that it is a healthy, gentle and sustainable approach to fitness, based on strengthening and stretching your muscles. Your body feels wonderfully realigned and refreshed. Often, high-intensity CrossFit or functional training (which is very good when you have a specific or quick target to achieve) can be very strenuous on the body. This is especially true if you have any joint or back issues. Pilates is a very gentle way of training your muscles without further injury to yourself.
Pilates also helps improve your posture. Today, it continues to be embraced by professional dancers. This assures you of the effectiveness of Pilates, as dancers put their bodies through a lot of strain. Pilates can realign any misbalances that occur. During intense physical preparation for films like Dhoom 3 , and songs such as Sheila ki Jawaani , Pilates has always been an integral part of my training.
Yasmin has a wonderfully positive attitude at all times and she makes training fun. She ll often adapt or change our training sessions according to my mood or energy level. Often, when I have intense periods of training, like before Dhoom 3 , she will train with me, as in, do each exercise along with me because I don t like doing it on my own. She s very passionate about her clients achieving their results.
I always feel better when I m healthy and fit! I believe that there are no shortcuts to becoming fit. If you want to be fit and healthy or if you want to correct an injury, you have to put in the time. It is important to be regular and incorporate Pilates as part of your lifestyle
