THE RISE OF THREATS
The world around us is more dangerous than ever before. England’s threat level is set at an unprecedented high, and this shows no sign of abating.
DID YOU KNOW? Nearly 500 people were convicted of a terror-related offence from 9/11 to December, 2015, thanks to the work of UK intelligence agencies.
Conflicts in the Middle East, along with the rapid improvement of technology in the past decade, mean that Britain is at risk from foreign terrorists and home-grown criminals alike.
So, how can we stop these people? How can we protect our citizens? The answer is through security organisations and specialist experts!
BRITISH INTELLIGENCE
The main body of British intelligence work consists of tracking down and monitoring criminals, such as paedophiles or suspected terrorists.
Given the rise of new technology, these agencies are fundamental in preventing hacking attacks that could jeopardise the security of Britain.
In computing terms, intelligence agencies are Britain’s foremost firewall against digital attacks, and also contribute hugely to the anti-terror movement.
DID YOU KNOW? Intelligence agencies are used by many organisations including the police, the UK border agency, the military, JTAC, and other governmental departments.
THE WORK OF INTELLIGENCE AGENCIES
As we have mentioned, intelligence analysts are responsible for identifying international threats to the UK.
In order to do this, they use a range of analytical tools and devices, including the most up-to-date technology. Once a potential threat has been identified, intelligence analysts work in conjunction with employees from other intelligence organisations, to determine, deal with, and detain the perpetrator.
Now, let’s look at an example puzzle: EXAMPLE
‘Michael Smith went for a drink with his friend. His friend was feeling down in the dumps. He’d just lost his job, and he didn’t know how he was going to pay the bills. Michael consoled his friend, paid for their drinks, and then went home.
When he got home, he had a clever idea. He decided to let his friend know about a job opening that he had found. The only problem was, Michael did this in the special code that they had used since they were children.’

Every digit corresponds with a letter on your phone keypad!
For example, the 1st number is ‘4’ . On your phone keypad, the third letter on the number 4 is ‘I’ . The 2nd number is ‘6’ . On your phone keypad the 2nd letter on the number 6 is ‘N’.

HOW TO WORK THROUGH YOUR GUIDE
This guide contains 3 different sections: beginner, intermediate and advanced. Each of the sections will contain a range of different puzzle types, from number grids to visual conundrums, word plays to riddles.
The questions in this book are designed to mirror the type of questions that an intelligence operative would need to solve on a regular basis; in the fight against crime and terrorism. After each section, we have provided you with in-depth answers to each and every single question; so that you can check whether your solution was right, and if not, where you went wrong.

Riddles are a clever way to ask questions. They consist of a statement which is intentionally phrased in a particular way, to help the puzzle taker work out the meaning.
Riddles are a great way to enhance your brain power! They can train your brain to think creatively and ‘outside of the box’.
