home. A g reat life isn’ t a bout great huge thing s; it’ s about small things
that make a big diff erence.
Wor king with flo wers i s very nurt uring. It trans port s me to a z one o f joy I don’ t w ant to leave .
I remember my fi rst “ ah a” momen t. It w as a lat e aft ernoon and I had just f in ished unloading gr oceries. I t had been a lo ng day and I w as tired. Looking ov er at the flo wers I just purch ased still made me smile , so I ga thered my energy , picked up the blooms, an d began pre pping. I removed the leaves, careful ly recu t the stems , and placed ea ch fl ower int o a vase i n a way t hat looke d pretty to me.
How was th is diff erent fr om any o ther time ? I became awa re of the profound calm I felt as I worke d with my hands. As I claim ed this momen t for m yself , the noise of three young children playing wit h our dogs gr ew faint . I had foun d peaceful minutes of resto rative jo y, an active med itation t hat energi zed me!
I am grat eful fo r these simple moments and appreciat e them oft en. Howev er , I also know that w hen it come s to real life and my hectic sch edule, fa st and easy fl owers are a must. Of cours e, I lov e sitt ing down w ith an elabo rate book showcasin g over - the- to p part y ideas . Howeve r, this is not that book.
This is a book with beautiful yet sim ple designs that any one can rec reate i n a pinch . It encourag es you to set asi de personal t ime to re charge y our soul by working w ith your hands. T ou ching nat ure to n urt ure.
So many people I meet say , “I’ m terrible at arrang ing fl owers. ” This si mply is no t true! I wrot e this bo ok to demy stify the proces s of cr eating pro fessional -lo oking arrangement s with ea se. If you can hold a pair of scissors , I promis e you can c reate beautiful f lo wer arra ngements. Keep i n mind that when it co mes to cr eativity , the number one rul e is there ar e no rules. So with simp le techniq ues to gui de you and easy ideas t o try , you can put your ow n spin on t hese, or ju st copy w hat you s ee and e njoy.

SCISSORS A pair of sharp f lo wer sci ssors is ideal, but I will adm it, I us ually gr ab kitc hen sci ssors. Th is is a must for cutt ing stems and removin g lower l eaves to k eep the
water cle an.
RUBBER BANDS I like saving the thick r ubber bands that come w ith the asp aragus fro m the groc ery store as well as b uying diff erent si zes o f clea r hair band s. A varie ty
of bands will be u seful t o have.
TAPE Tap e is my s ecret w eapon when c reating i nvisible grids to keep fl owers a nd stems i n place. Wa terproo f
tape is ni ce, but regular t ape works fi ne.
RAFFIA I always have raff ia in my g ift -w rapping drawer . I love t he organic , simple e ff ect, whic h works perfe ct for fl ower desi gn. I use it in arr angements to
hide rubber bands or to secure leaning orc hids.

I used to h ave a pant ry full of vases from fl owers I had received as gift s, or that I bought just beca use they we re
pretty . Here’ s what I lea rned: keep o nly what y ou love.
Each roo m in your home has one fo cal point . I tend to grab the sam e one or two vases for these s pots beca use I know the scal e and ligh ting are perf ect for them . When you buy a n ew vase, m ake sure you know w here it will go and then edit w hat you h ave. Le ss is more, which
makes li fe less compl icated.
On that not e, fl ower vases are hidden al l throughout your home. T ru st me, I have so mu ch fun t hinking outside the box and w hat’s already in my house t hat can be repurposed for fl ower con tainers . It’s fun, cr eative,
and unexpect ed!
So where can you fi nd them ? The kitc hen is a g ood place to s tart . How about a copper meat loaf pan or white cass erole dish ? A white water p itcher , a glass w ine
carafe, or a silv er ice b ucket ? Start saving yo ur glass

creamer bot tles so that when you hav e enough, yo u can parade them down the dining table or mak e a c ircle wit h them and f il l with ga rden fl owers. Candy and nut dishes are great for fl oating fl owers. Seeing the roots from several small herb plant s placed inside d rinking g lasses
work perf ect for an in side garden .
Look around yo ur living r oom and not ice the cand le holders. The se come in ma ny size s and colors and always loo k prett y for sm all bouquets . My go- to glass hurricane candle holder lo oks beautif ul for f lo ating flo wers. And if I li ke a pretty retail bag, why not reu se it
for a fl owering plant ?
Don’t forget the bathroo m. I’v e used a dec orative trash can and a to othbrush holders as f lo wer vases because
they’r e the perf ect siz e for a sweet bouquet on t he sink.
Yo u can fi nd vases any where. If it ca n hold fl owers,
that’s all you really nee d.
