Foreword
When Chris Cowlin asked me if I’d be interested in writing the foreword to his latest Spurs quiz book, he suggested that I might like to start by talking about my life as a Tottenham fan... which got me thinking... in general is that something I’d like to actually write down? Is it something that I’d want to submit to print and have to read forever anon?
Because being a Spurs fan is a lot like marrying someone who you know is way too good-looking for you. Sure, you get times where you’re cock of the walk and you know people are looking at you enviously but, unfortunately, there are far more times where your insecurity gets the better of you and you’re hysterically worrying what pain the near future is going to bring you.
However, for the most part, the 2015/2016 season has brought a completely new feeling to being a Tottenham fan. I’ve discussed it on numerous occasions as our club feeling like a ‘New Spurs’. That feeling is based on our wonderful Argentinian manager Mauricio Pochettino having insisted on only having players at the club with the drive, desire and absolute hunger and determination to work their very hardest for the shirt, be that on or off the pitch. Mauricio ridded us of the kind of overpaid and underperforming mercenaries that seem to crop up at every Premier League club these days and, as a result, White Hart Lane has never been louder, and never been prouder of the team on show every week.
To be honest (barring the first and last four games of the season), every single week has brought memories that I’ve been proud of this past season. Even getting spanked 3-0 in Dortmund in the Europa League, it still felt like there was a greater purpose that made it almost bearable. Mauricio has got a grand plan, Daniel Levy is backing him as best he can while building the grandest stadium in London, and our fans are supporting the boys like never before.
With all that positivity in mind, there has never been a better time to dig your nose into the latest of Chris’ quiz books. Not just because they can help you and your family kill time on a long road trip, or because it will take pride of place as your number one toilet reading book, but because there’s a higher chance than ever that a number of the questions will bring back memories of brilliant moments that the ‘New Spurs’ have brought you throughout the past season.
Enjoy!

Introduction
I have been a Spurs fan now for 36 years and I can honestly say, the 2015/2016 season has been my favourite season supporting the club I love.
I have witnessed some great football, seen some fantastic goals and have recorded some memorable times.
The start of this season was a little frustrating; a defeat on the opening day of the season against Manchester United, followed by draws against Stoke, Leicester and Everton, leaving us with three Premier League points from the first four games. After this, our season took off and we were a very hard side to beat. The signing of Toby Alderweireld proved to be one of the buys of the season and the £1 million we shelled out for Dele Alli should go down as the buy of the millennium! He, in particular, showed he is great young talent and will be a player to look out for in the future.
We were unbeaten in the next 11 League games, winning six and drawing five. The highlight here was beating a very confident Manchester City side 4-1 and Harry Kane grabbing his first goal of the season, and he was still being dubbed ‘a one season wonder’. After this game, I backed him to be the Premier League’s top scorer come May - and I was laughed at! He then went on to score what seemed an easy hat-trick at Bournemouth in a 5-1 win. Another notable game was when we beat the Hammers 4-1 at home. In all honesty, I don’t know how we didn’t win the game 10-0; what a great performance from the Spurs boys.
In amongst the League matches we played our six group stage games in the Europa League, winning four and drawing one, including a 4-1 home win against Monaco where the ever-improving Erik Lamela scored a hat-trick.
Then, 2015 finished on a high, winning away at Southampton 2-0, beating Norwich at home 3-0 and then beating Watford away 2-1 in the last-minute thanks to Heung-Min Son. It wasn’t the first time the fans witnessed late goals; we were becoming used to it as you could really see that the fitness of our players outshone other teams, whoever we were playing. Full credit must go to Pochettino for that.
At the end of 2015 Spurs, fans started to believe in the team and the manager. It was a good place to be and we were halfway through the season, after all we had only lost twice in the League out of the first 19 games and sitting in third position. On social media everyone was being very positive and people, including me, started to believe we could even win the League! Wow, what a thought, winning the League for the first time since 1961; 55 years is a long time and Spurs fans like me have to read about what is was like to be there when your team won the League. Every game that I travelled to just got better and better and the expectation was high because we all knew how we could turn sides over and score goals, despite only having one striker.
When you think about it - the spine of the team was so strong - Hugo (who I rate as the best goalkeeper in the world), Jan and Toby (centre backs), Dier and Dembele, together with Alli and Kane - not many teams in any league can boost that quality through the spine of their team. No wonder we were excited.
The strange thing was Leicester City were ahead of us, the team who almost got relegated the season before. We all thought they would drop off after enjoying their time in the top six during the first half of the season; the other teams we were up there with were Arsenal, and the two Manchester teams, City and United - but we all believed, as Poch told the fans ‘believe’, we would win the games against them.
