Foreword
Christ, do I have a story to tell you … if the voices let me … don’t get the wrong idea … this is a true story … well, as true as stories ever are … at least that’s what Cervantes had to say … back when I was studying English at Simon Fraser, before my first … but where was I … ah, yes, the story … a true story, strong and free … greed and opportunism … my English professor would call that foreshadowing … but the voices are telling me I’m overdoing the academic pedantic stuff … and about the voices, it is true that my psychiatrist says I have schizophrenia … but you being a sophisticated reader know that even if it’s true, we still have moments of lucidity … and more than moments of lucidity … we are often witness to events when staff think we’re not paying attention … and I was there when that poor Ms. Brant passed away … and that’s the beginning of the story, except I have to tell it to you backwards because that’s how I came to know what really happened … and I don’t want you thinking this is all about being paranoid because there is good reason to believe that this story isn’t necessarily over and if I’m going to tell the story I have to do it my way … and the story started with a dream I had.

“This place will not always be as you see it today,” said Tonto.
“I can’t fucking see it today,” said Sitting Bull as he peered through the fog and rain.
“I have heard the voices of our brothers across the mountains … Crazy Horse, Geronimo and Cochise … who speak of a white savage who kills, rapes and pillages our people,” said Tonto.
“Our people are always predicting some fucking calamity,” said Sitting Bull. “A white man from the East. Why not a yellow man from across the ocean? Which direction did we come from?”
“You are such an insolent prick,” said Tonto. “You have no respect for the legends of our ancestors. Obviously we come from the sea with the bear and the deer. The raven opened the clam and out we jumped.”
“What a stupid legend that myth is,” interrupted Sitting Bull.
