Description

Mack is a Grade One: Grade Ones are the best: they are the future. When he sees a Grade Three boy being attacked in the street, Mack doesn't help him. After all, Grade Threes don't matter. Then Mack starts hearing voices in his head. And the face in the mirror isn't his. What is going on?Part of the new Fresh Shades series, this is a shorter version of the original book. The Sharp Shades stories are illustrated and have simpler language and a larger font than the original book. They are perfect for older readers who may find longer books too daunting, but who still want the excitement of a great story told with pace and style.

Mack didn’t want trouble.
He heard the kid cry out and the crack as his head hit the ground. The gang closed round him.
Not my problem, Mack thought. The boy’s jacket had no red stripe, so he was just a Grade Three. Mack needn’t bother. He had to get to college.
Grade Threes were workers, or the kids of workers. There were plenty of them. The chosen ones were Grade Ones. It was just the way things were.
Mack pushed past. One of the gang swung round, but the red bands on Mack’s jacket made him step back. No one touched a Grade One!
Mack kept his head down, thinking ahead to college. As he did so, his glance fell on the face of the boy on the ground.
