The Cinderella story has come a long way from its origins as a tale about the dangers of persecution and systemic oppression.
Dating back in the first century AD, the story seems to have evolved from the tale of a Greek slave girl who became an Egyptian queen. The story as we know it is romantic, magical, and ultimately supernatural.
The most popular version is the 1697 one by the French writer Charles Perrault. His version was called “Cendrillon or The Little Glass Slipper”. It gained popularity due to the addition of the fairy godmother, the glass slippers, and the pumpkin.
