PREFACE
This book is a grammar book addressed to students in general and students majoring in English in particular. In fact, this book may be useful to any student or person interested in improving his English grammar.
The book consists of twenty-five units, each of which includes twenty items. Each item consists of four entries marked
a, b, c, and d.
Entry (a) is the sentence which gives the grammatical stimulus. The sentence may be right, which in not frequent, or wrong, which is generally the case. If wrong, the sentence has only two types of mistakes: a mistake in grammar or a mistake in punctuation. The student is to decide on the correctness of the sentence depending on his own previous knowledge. The
instructional situation in entry (a) is meant to be a self-testing situation. Occasionally, the same entry or a similar one reappears in later units for the purpose of reviewing.
Entry (b) provides a space, usually one blank line, where the learner writes down his own correction or response to entry (a). The student either corrects the sentence if wrong or writes "Correct" if the sentence is devoid of any mistakes. i
Entry (c) gives the correct answer, which provides the student with an immediate feedback that enables him to know whether his response is right or wrong immediately after responding.
Entry (d) explains the correct answer of entry (C). It gives the underlying grammatical principle, which helps the student judge the correctness of following items in the same unit or in the coming units.
Thus, entry (a) gives the stimulus. Entry (b) allows for the response. Entry (c) secures the immediate feedback. Entry (d)
teaches the related grammatical principle.
There are two possible approaches to using this book. The first one, which the author does not approve of, is to ignore the self-testing entry,i.e., entry (b) and just read entries a, c, and d. The other approach is the self-testing one, where all the four entries are taken care of. The second approach is more useful and more instructive than the first one.

HOW TO USE THE BOOK
The user of this book is advised to follow these directions:
1. Read every sentence marked (a) very carefully 2.Decide whether the sentence is grammatically correct or not. Remember that some sentences included in this book are
grammatically correct, but most of them are not. 3.Before you read the sentence (a), make sure that you cover entries (c) and (d) with a sheet of paper. Do not look at entry (c),i.e.,the correct answer, nor at entry (d),i.e.,the explanation, before you first respond on your own. 4.Write your answer in the space of entry (b). If the
sentence is correct, write so. If wrong, correct it or re-write it. The probable mistakes are mainly grammatical, especially syntactic, and sometimes punctuation ones. 5.After you do the correction depending completely on your knowledge and skill, look at entry ©, where you find the correct answer. Compare your answer in entry (b) to the model answer in entry (c). See if your answer in right or wrong.

6. Near the letter (b) before your answer, putif your answer is right andif wrong. 7. Then read entry (d), which gives the grammatical principle related to the sentence. 8. When you finish the twenty sentences of the unit, give
yourself a grade out of 20. This may help you evaluate your performance if you wish to see how your progress throughout the twenty-five units of the book. 9. Sometimes in entry (d) you do not find an explanation,
but rather a reference to a previous item or unit especially when the same principle is applicable. In this case, it is advisable that you re-read the frame referred to. 10. At the end of the book, go to the self-evaluation section and carry out the instruction there in order to compute your final grade for all the units of the book.
