ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
I wish to pay tribute to the following people for their invaluable help in the preparation and publication of this book.
To my wife, Lorraine, I owe much thanks for her many hours of typing and proofreading. I owe her even more thanks perhaps for her encouragement and her continuous support both as a wife and as a prayer warrior. Her many suggestions for lists were also very helpful.
I want to especially thank the editorial staff at Bethany House for all their work on the book. They also provided me with many ideas for lists, and were so kind and patient with me.
I want to thank the numerous people who wrote to me with suggestions for new lists.
I met a man in Dallas, Texas, who told me he had given my first book, Meredith s Book of Bible Lists, to his son, and it turned his son s life around. That sort of news makes it all worthwhile!

BIBLIOGRAPHY
PREFACE
The purpose of Meredith s Complete Book of Bible Lists is to entertain, interest, fascinate, stimulate, and most of all, educate. Many people have complained that the Bible is dull reading and that they can t get past all the begats (e.g., Abraham begat Isaac, etc.). Here s a fresh and informative look at some of the interesting and helpful portions of the Scriptures, showing that the Bible is anything but a dull book. And if this book gets the reader back into The Book, its real purpose will have been fulfilled.
Some people have complained that the Bible (and religion in general) has too many thou shalt nots. While Meredith s Complete Book of Bible Lists does include some negatives, you will realize from a quick perusal of the Contents pages that the greater weight of Christianity and the Bible is on the positive side-what God has done and is doing for His creation. There are more than four hundred fifty promises from the Bible listed in this book, with special attention paid to conditions for acquiring those promises.
Bible references quoted are from the King James Version, with a few exceptions where the New International Version is used or the New King James Version is used. Some Scripture quotes are paraphrased by the compiler in the interest of condensing longer passages.
The compiler s preparation for this project includes a thorough familiarity with the Bible; he has read the Old and New Testaments numerous times. His hope is that you will enjoy reading Meredith s Complete Book of Bible Lists as much as he enjoyed putting it together.
1 COMMANDMENTS
Laws form the foundation of civilized society. One of the wonders of history is that so much was summed up in the list known as the Ten Commandments. When Jesus lived on the earth, He taught what He called the two greatest commandments and in so doing produced an even more concise statement. In the final analysis, governing man s attitude and behavior toward God and his fellow human beings can be summed up in one word- love.
Though this truth is found also in the Old Testament, when Jesus came more than two thousand years ago, He further revealed the nature of God: a God who is a Judge and yet a Father, a King and yet a Savior. We are able to find as many as two hundred fifty New Testament commandments. These do not replace the Ten Commandments of the Old Testament, but are a more detailed, further unfolding of God s expectations for the way people should live. Included here is a list of Old Testament laws with Jesus commentary and application of them.
You will also find Jesus exhortation to the unconverted, His commandments concerning human relationships, fifty ways to please God, the apostles exhortations about how to treat others, warnings about other spirits, principles for good family relationships, and guidelines for church leaders.
