Commonwealth Corps Service Position Description YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS SOCIETY, INC. Cultivating Economic Self-Sufficiency in the North Quabbin Adult Literacy Tutor and Community Outreach Assistant The Assistant will help teen and young adult GED/ABE learners at The Literacy Project – North Quabbin develop greater economic self-sufficiency by connecting them to supportive adult tutors and people, places, opportunities and resources both in and beyond the 9-town rural North Quabbin region. Based at The Literacy Project’s Orange, MA site, this is an 11-month paid volunteer position made possible through a Commonwealth Corps grant from Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The grant provides each volunteer a stipend of up to $5,000 (depending on start date), paid bi-weekly, and a bonus of up to $900 at the satisfactory conclusion of 800 hours of service (approximately 18 hours each for 44 weeks). Hours will require flexibility based on needs of the project. Start date is September 1, 2009. Responsibilities: The Assistant is responsible for providing tutoring services to adult literacy and GED students at The Literacy Project's Orange, MA site and conducting outreach to recruit additional volunteer tutors. The position will also perform duties in community collaboration and administrative support for the Orange classroom.
