Three-dimensional Parallel Hydrodynamicsand Astrophysical ApplicationsDissertationzur Erlangung des Grades eines Doktorsder Naturwissenschaftender Fakultat fur Mathematik und Physik¨ ¨der Eberhard-Karls-Universitat zu Tubingen¨ ¨vorgelegt vonRichard Gun¨ theraus Tubingen¨2005Tag der mundlichen Prufung: 22. Berichter: Prof. Dr. Hanns RuderAbstractThis work presents the newly developed three-dimensional parallel hydrodynamicscode TraMP together with a generic C++ library for automatic parallelization of fi-nite difference schemes on structured grids. Furthermore we present two astrophysicalapplications, namely the problem of oscillating n-dimensional polytropes and exten-sive studies on the evolution of circumbinary disks including the accretion process andspectral distribution of the emitted energy.TraMP is based on the freely available POOMA library, which has been extensivelyextendedandoptimizedforourneeds. Wewereabletogreatlyimproveparallelperfor-manceofthePOOMAlibrarybyintroducingnativesupportforMPIandOpenMP.Ex-tensiveperformancemeasurementshaveshownthattheparallelperformanceofTraMPscales up to 128 processors and more. The implemented infrastructure for Cartesian, cylindricalandsphericalcoordinatesystemsallowsforeasycovariantimplementationofthefinitedifferenceschemesinTraMP.
