IceCube and DeepCore are currently underconstruction at the geographic South Pole, Antarctica. With DeepCore the energythreshold of IceCube is signi cantly lowered, opening new possibilities to, e.g., improvelow-energy point source searches, to measure standard vacuum neutrino oscillationsand to increase the sensitivity to solar dark matter annihilation signals. In parallel tothe DeepCore design study a, software based, active atmospheric muon veto techniquehas been developed, which for the rst time, allows IceCube to measure neutrinos witha full sky (4) acceptance, although at a signi cantly reduced e ective volume.
