Summary This work is concerned with human remains of Roman times (1st to 4th Century A.C.) — including 34 skulls — found in different archaeological sites in Algeria (and Tunisia). We have no certitude as to the proper origin of the subjects, but there is a good probability that most of them are of local ancestry. Affinities appear with various Mediterranean populations (first of all, with contemporaneous ones from Spain) and particularly with some actual populations of North Africa such as the Kabyles, who are considered as being among the most « typical » Berberian people. Unfortunately, we lack references for thorough comparisons, especially with the whole of the Algerian Protohistoric material (but we hope interesting observations will come out after the review of this material, which another anthropologist is preparing).
