Description
The study of the digital and palmar dermatoglyphics of maninka, bamanan, soninké, foulbé and songhoï resulted in a rather precise dermatoglyphic characterisation of each of these ethnic groups. Nonetheless, there seems to be a common background. The comparison with six other west-african groups (kissi, guerze, sousou, mossi, biwols and banapas) has shown that the genetic links between the studied Malinese populations are narrower than those between the Malinese and the others. Compared to certain european groups, they show more accessory interdigital triradii and also slightly more carpal triradii. The Cummins indice, indicating the number of patterns on the hypothenar area is lower in the africans. No differences seem to exist concerning the PII and the th/I.
