Description
Abstract : Karstic plateaus under clay, sand and/or detrital cover (from recent studies). Among the seven types listed, the first three are well represented : lithostratigraphic-contact karsts under clay cover, cuesta karsts with sandstone caprock, and karsts under weathered rock cover and siliceous spraying (flint clay of the chalk karsts, chert clay, siderolitic, terra rossa). The latter are of fairly ancient development and include palaeokarsts. Only the high plateaus of the Central Jura have submorainic karsts . These deposits alter the conditions of water penetration and the functions of the groundwater (artesian phenomena, clay fillings). Thanks to podzolic and peat soils water infiltration are corrosive and lead to the advance of crypto-corrosion and evolution in the deep karst. Finally, if the surface shapes, dolines or fosses appear mediocre and often filled in ; the frequency of piping and collapse phenomena constitute an important engineering risk .
