Bugsville TutorialEstimating the heritabilityof a quantitative traitThis tutorial challenges you to design and conduct experiments to esti-mate the heritability of a quantitative trait in a model population, and to predict the response to selection. The analytical tools you will need are described briefly here, and discussed in more detail in Chapter 7, Sec-tion 3 of Evolutionary Analysis.The organisms in the model population you will study are ladybugs. The trait you will analyze is number of spots. I should make a disclaimer at the outset: I don’t know anything about the genetics of spot number in real ladybugs.
