On February 4, 2005, you announced the Logger Point Fuelbreak WUI Project, which outlined a number of issues that are being considered for implementation in the Giant Sequoia National Monument based on the guidelines as described in the 2001 Sierra Nevada Forest Plan Amendment (2001 SNFPA), which amended the 1988 Sequoia National Forest Land and Resource Management Plan. We support projects that would protect the health and safety of the residents in forest communities. We support projects that protect communities by thinning the trees in the 200 foot-wide areas immediately surrounding structures. As set forth below, we oppose the Logger Point Fuelbreak WUI Project on a number of bases and suggest that the project be postponed or severely narrowed.
