Description
Archives des sciences sociales des religions - Année 1974 - Volume 38 - Numéro 1 - Pages 91-108Two experiments in a natural setting (Catholic seminarists and ecclesiastics meeting for an introduction to the Sciences of Religion) propose to establish, in a situation of taught orthodoxy, the effects that a more severe regulation of the norms governing belonging to the group can have on the recognition of the rational weakness of the beliefs and on the recognition of the internal coherence of the corpus front which these beliefs are drawn. Two hypotheses are verified : 1) «If an orthodox subject is made to realize, with regard to any one of his beliefs, that front the standpoint of the orthodox controlling system it is socially even more urgent than he thinks to adhere to it, his perception of the flaws that may exist between this particular belief and the other statements of the corpus will be less clear » ; 2) « If an orthodox subject is made to realize, with regard to any one of his beliefs, that from the standpoint of the orthodox controlling system it is socially even more urgent than he thinks to adhere to it, his perception of the distance that this particular belief imposes on the norms of reason will be less clear ».
