Numerous tribal features can be observed in the State religion of Nepal, a Hindu kingdom which, on the other hand, does not tolerate any interaction with Islam or Christianism. This article examines the participation of the Magar tribal group to the foremost founding rites of the royal dynasty. It deals with the problem of the origin of this phenomenon which can be interpreted whether as a tribal filiation of the royal family or as a ritual integration of the Magar group into the government of their conquerors. An analysis of the Nepalese chronicles provides the political reasons for the magarisation of the Thakur kings.
Au sein du royaume hindou du Népal qui rejette sévèrement tout contact avec l'islam et le christianisme, de nombreux traits tribaux caractérisent la religion d'Etat. L'article examine la participation du groupe tribal Magar aux rites les plus fondateurs de la dynastie régnante et tente de penser l'origine de ce phénomène. S'agit-il de la marque d'une filiation tribale de la famille royale ou de l'intégration rituelle d'un groupe conquis dans le gouvernement des vainqueurs ? Un examen des chroniques népalaises met en lumière les raisons politiques de la magarisation des rois Thakur.
