Pierre Fournier : Observations under surveillance Limiting the interpretation of survey material obtained through different forms of direct observation in a nuclear power plant requires reflection in the course of the survey or afterward rather than a priori. First of all, it entails achiev ing an overview of the various observation phases in the history of the research, reconstructed in a chronology of the survey stages, and of the gradual change in the direction of research. Secondly, it involves paying systematic attention to the ways of perceiving the observer - quite varied according to the type of direct observation - that affect the way those surveyed present themselves to the observer's gaze.
