Juni 2009AbstractUltra-stable light sources are needed for many high-precision experiments, such as interferomet-ric gravitational wave detectors. The goal of these detectors is to detect gravitational waves ofastrophysical and cosmological origin incident on the Earth. The existence of gravitationalwaves is one of the most prominent of Einstein’s predictions that has not yet been directlyverified. The first direct detection of gravitational waves will open a new window to theUniverse and has been a strong source of motivation in the development and construction ofinstruments with exceptional sensitivity. One of the fundamental sensitivity limits of inter-ferometric gravitational wave detectors comes from the power fluctuations of the laser light.
