Abstract Adult neural stem cell biology is a major focus in neuroscience, due to the potential applications of stem cells in modern medicine to compensate for neuronal loss in neurodegenerative diseases or upon injuries. We are still in the early phase of deciphering the mechanisms of neural stem cell maintenance, recruitment and differentiation. In the present study we used zebrafish as model system to examine the potentialities and division properties of a well defined neural stem cell population.
