ABSTRACT Endogenous opioids are known to modify LH and GH secretion through the hypothalamo- pituitary axis. This study aimed at verifying the direct action of opioids on LH and GH secretion at the pituitary level using pituitaries (adenohypophyses) of pigs in a perifusion in vitro system. Furthermore to determine whether opioidergic modulated release of LH and GH is altered by LHRH or GHRH stimulation at the pituitary in pigs and if these effects are sex-, and age-dependent.
