Le gisement paléolithique supérieur de Belloy-sur-Somme, situé dans la vallée de la Somme à une quinzaine de kilomètres au nord-ouest d'Amiens, a été étudié par V. Commont au début du siècle. Il fait l'objet de nouvelles recherches depuis 1984.
Trois occupations attribuables au Paléolithique supérieur récent et final ont été reconnues au sommet de la séquence limoneuse de la très basse terrasse de la Somme. Ces différentes occupations font de ce gisement un site de référence pour le Nord de la France à la fin des temps glaciaires.
Les principales données concernant les occupations du Paléolithique supérieur final sont ici présentées. Le Magdalénien final sera traité dans un article séparé.
The Upper Palaeolithic site of Belloy-sur-Somme in the Somme valley, about fifteen kilometres to the northwest of Amiens, was studied by Victor Commont at the beginning of the century. Since 1984 it has been the subject of fresh investigations.
It is possible to recognize three periods of occupation dating to the recent and final Upper Palaeolithic in the uppermost part of a sequence of loamy deposits belonging to the lowest terrace of the Somme. These different occupations make Belloy-sur-Somme a key for understanding the end of the Ice Age in northern France.
Critical data relevant to the final Upper Palaeolithic occupations are presented here. The final Magdalenian will be considered in a separate article.
