Nov. 2010AbstractThe present contribution deals with the model-based analysis, the model reductionand the control of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). In the firstpart of this work a bifurcation analysis of a PEM fuel cell under two-phase condi-tions, i.e. the parallel presence of liquid water and water vapor inside the cell, isperformed. A steady-state multiplicity is found by this analysis that results fromdifferent liquid water contents in the cell that areclose to flooding. This multiplicityisphysicallyexplainedandthedependencyondifferentandsignificantfuelcellpara-meters is investigated. Finally, the dynamic behavior of thesystem inthe parameterregion, where multiple steady states occur, is also studied in order to completelycharacterize the multiplicity and therefore increase the knowledge about two-phasePEMFCs close to flooding conditions.
