November 2006 ISSN – 0173 – 6892 November 2007 IKE 2 - 153 Universität Stuttgart CHAPTER I ABSTRACT iii I Abstract The objective of the present work is to develop a model to describe the late phase of melting and degradation processes in the core of a Light Water Reactor which occur during a severe accident. This model was integrated in the German system code ATHLET-CD. The purpose is to apply the code to severe accident scenarios in order to obtain information on the timing of processes, on possible variants of the evolution and on options of accident management measures during the available time margins.
