While this article is not a tutorial on how to teach reading or on the mechanics of learning to read there are numerous books and programs that are available. The TTACs across Virginia have numerous resources available for loan if you are interested in further study. There seems to be confusion about whether or not children with autism are able to learn to read. While children with autism may have a difficult time with phonics instruction and comprehension they CAN learn to read.
